Overview
Ladakh is a region in Indian–administered Kashmir, located between the Karakoram mountain range to the north and the Himalayas to the south. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in the world, with an estimated population of only 2.2 million people. The region is known for its remote mountain villages, Buddhist monasteries, and stunning landscapes, making it a popular destination for trekkers and adventurers. The region is home to several of the world‘s highest mountain passes, including the Khardung La pass at 5,359 m (17,582 ft). It is also known for its unique culture, which is a mix of Tibetan, Indian, and Persian influences.
Ladakh is known for its vibrant cultural heritage, with many traditional festivals and events taking place throughout the year. Its rich cultural heritage is reflected in its vibrant arts and crafts, such as its intricate carpets, colourful jewellery, and vibrant textiles. Ladakh is also known for its wildlife, with several species of endangered animals living in the region, including the snow leopard, ibex, and Himalayan brown bear.
